Unincorporated South Dekalb Resident
-The aging infrastructure and blight of commercial properties in this corridor is not only an eyesore, but has created a haven for crime and discourages residents from going near these areas. There needs to be major reinvestment and development to make Candler, Glenwood and Memorial more livable.
-It feels unsafe to walk or ride a bike along these major arterial roads because people drive way too fast and the sidewalks are too narrow, uneven, and close to the street. There should be a priority to deterring speeding, making sidewalks larger, creating protected bike lanes, and overall making the area more pedestrian friendly.
-Yes. There is an increasing population of unhoused individuals in this corridor with seemingly nowhere safe to go. I believe the blighted properties in this area should be turned into more affordable housing and development for local businesses that help the community (not gas stations, liquor stores, pawn shops, storage facilities, etc)
-More efficient mass public transit (trains) to get people to hubs for work and less congestion on the roadways. Improving aging infrastructure and community-lead redevelopment of blighted areas to allow people to live, work and play safely in their own neighborhoods.
