What is World Planning Day?

World (Town) Planning Day is celebrated every November 08th. Planners and communities all over the world come together to celebrate how good planning improves the lives of people and benefits society at large, creating places where to live, work and play together.

Argentinian professor Carlos María della Paolera, a graduate at the Institut d'urbanisme in Paris, started World Town Planning Day in Buenos Aires in 1949.

World Planning Day is celebrated in 30 countries on four continents each November. It is a special day to recognize and promote the role of planners and planners in creating healthy, prosperous communities.

What is the Green New Deal?

Our DeKalb Green New Deal is a people-powered organizing effort that will elevate the realities of the climate crisis, push for bold solutions and help enact meaningful policy solutions to protect our communities. This looks like clean and efficient energy, conserving nature and ensuring it is accessible, and environmental justice and equity.

Since launching in 2023, the DeKalb Green New Deal has built a movement of over 600 climate champions and passed 20 climate action policies, resolutions, and initiatives. Some of these include:

    • DeKalb County committed to installing Solar Panels, conduct an Energy Efficiency Audit, and composting in government buildings
    • A line item in SPLOST II for Clean Energy Projects
    • The passage of the Cottage Court Ordinance
    • Electric Vehicle Fleet expansion for DeKalb County
    • and so much more!

    Why should I attend?

World Planning Day featuring the DeKalb Green New Deal Festival is an excellent opportunity to learn about exciting topics such as Housing, Clean Energy, Sustainable Development, Zoning, and more while also having fun with our workshops, food trucks, music and games.

We hope that this event will provide the community with information about planning, sustainability, and resources that can help them advocate for their community.
