Project Overview

The Embry Hills-Presidential Parkway & Surrounding Communities Placemaking Strategy is a study sponsored by DeKalb County seeking to strengthen this area’s unique identity through public art and culture. A placemaking strategy guides the development of a place by creating tools and policies to support the vision and goals of the community.

Upcoming Events:

  • Public Open House (May 13, 2026) - A public meeting will be held at The District at Chamblee - Gather Building (2965 Flowers Road). The project team will present the draft plan, and members of the public are invited to share their comments on the draft. A Community Stakeholder Q&A Panel will also be held during the meeting for community leaders to share their insight and vision for the future of the study area.

Recent Events:

  • Design Workshop #2 (March 25, 2026) - A community design workshop was held at ITP Training Academy (3110 Presidential Drive). The project team shared a presentation and members of the public shared their ideas through interactive boards. An artist led an engagement activity, aimed at turning the community's priorities into a future mural within the study area.

  • Design Workshop #1 (February 12, 2026) - A community design workshop was held at the Chamblee campus of Mountain West Church (3147 Chamblee Tucker Road). A presentation and interactive activities provided multiple ways for community members to learn about the project and share their ideas. View the meeting presentation and boards.

At the Cocoa & Community Conversations Pop-Up in December, community members pinpointed locations with unique needs and opportunities.

We interacted with attendees of the American Red Cross Blood Drive, parents picking up their preschoolers, and other neighbors from the area.
What We Heard Were Top Concerns:
  1. Slowing speeds on Chamblee Tucker Road
  2. Providing space for pedestrians and cyclists to travel safely
  3. Addressing code enforcement issues

What We Heard Were Top Priorities:
  1. Sidewalks and greenways
  2. Public art that contributes to a sense of place
  3. Restaurants and retail opportunities




Study Area

This study will focus on the tan area below. This area sits near the intersection of I-85 and I-285 and includes a number of community amenities, such as grocery stores and libraries, a number of single family and multi-family residential neighborhoods, and many regional destinations such as Mercer University – Atlanta Campus and Silverbacks Park.

This area sits near the intersection of I-85 and I-285 and includes a number of community amenities, such as grocery stores and libraries, a number of single family and multi-family residential neighborhoods, and many regional destinations such as Mercer University – Atlanta Campus and Silverbacks Park. It includes the residential areas of Embry Hills and Northcrest.

*The study area boundary was expanded in October 2025 to include the Embry Hills residential area, Northcrest residential area, and the unincorporated neighborhood west of I-85 (shown on the map above).
